At Car Lust, a new find sent to me by evariste, a play-by-play analysis of one of the touchstones of Ricardo Montalban's career: the "soft Corinthian leather" commercial.
0:42 - Montalban's summation--"I have much more in this small Chrysler than great comfort at a most pleasant price. I have great confidence for which there can be no price."
Montalban's delivery is so strong that I find myself nodding along with this until my brain tries to process the words. Wait, what?
There's just one nagging mystery: why is it that he pronounces the car's name "corDOba", when the Spanish city for which it's named is pronounced "CORdoba"? It's not like Ricardo Montalban would have been ignorant of what accents do to the pronunciation of Spanish words.
(Ah well—I guess the tradition continues, judging by the near-ubiquitous pronunciation "MurcieLAHgo" I keep hearing, even from people who own the things.)
The video linked at the end of the post, though, is spot-on. MarVELous.
